After the May Munch we starting the process of electing the Steering & Ethics Committees for 2023/24.

Stage 2: Nominations - May

Nominations Forms were sent out to all UB Registered Members on the mailing list. as of 10 May 2023 at 12.01 AM.

• Nominations will be open from 10 May to 1 June 2023

• Information or Feedback email: ubsteering@gmail.com

• Nominees must have attended two UB Events in the last 12 months

• Nominees must live locally

• As part of the process, Nominees will be asked if they wish to stand for election using email and Fetlife message

Hey friends, I'm Tear. Thank you for asking me to represent you on the Steering Commitee! A little about me, I've been active in kink communities back home for years and am having an awesome time putting new roots down here.

I have a strong concern for the Risk Profiles of others and aim to bring that into focus for us all moving foward.

I am so enthusiastic about this push into education and safety and am so excited to see the workshops and events continue to grow. I hope that together we can steer this rapidly expanding community through its transition into this new era. Don't be afraid to come say hi at events! I'm the loud American one!

Yes, I’m standing again, for what I expect to be the last time (at least for a while). Why am I standing again? 1. Because I’m super passionate about this damn group and 2. Because we’ve a lot of work do, but its awesome work and frankly, I’m freaken excited about it!

I’ve been with UB for a hot min (or two) now and I’ve seen her grow and evolve into what we she is today. Right now, we’re on the verge of moving into a new era and I’m super enthusiastic where this will take UB. My personal goal is to see a wider leadership team, where we are better able to hear our members voices and where we are more inclusive than ever. Come chat with me about it! (cause my word limit is restricted)

Other than that, we all want lots more workshops, SIGs and lots of damn parties, where I oops, I mean, we can misbehave!!

I love opportunities for us to learn new tricks, meet new people and most of all have fun in enjoyable spaces with those you care about.

Hi everyone, thank you for the nomination. I have been in the lifestyle for about 7 years and have become more active in the community innthe last couple of years. I am very passionate about this community and supporting the wonderful people who are part of it. I believe inclusivity, education and safety are important parts of our community and that UB can exemplify these aspects. Education around safety, informed consent and negotiation are important aspects to focus on as our community grows. I have been excited to see more workshops and discussion nights being organized since covid restrictions have reduced. I would also love to help organize and promote other educational events and tasting parties, which can also be a great introduction for new people coming into the community.

I’m Tol . As an old punk, I believe in doing whatever the Fk you like as long as it doesn’t impinge on anyone else’s rights to do the same. I like rational debate and the use of logic to determine outcomes for myself and the things I prioritize.

UB has been a big part of my life for a long while now and allows me to be amongst people who, like myself value personal expression, creativity and the possibility of growth through experience.

I stand with the misfits and the outsiders and protect that which I care for.

I care for the possibilities that UB represents for people.

I've been active in the local scene for approx 10yrs, falling on the d-type side of the slash, and am primarily known for playing with rope. He/him, demi approaching ace, and always enjoy interesting conversations.

I've seen a bit since joining the local scene, both good and not so good, and would like to start giving back again after having had some time to work on myself the last couple of years.

I'm passionate about promoting inclusivity and fairness in all aspects of community life. 2. Writing blurbs about myself makes me uncomfortable. I appreciate and gladly accept the opportunity to be a member of the UB Ethics Committee. This community is fantastic, and it wouldn't be that way if it wasn't for our code of conduct.

Hi! The ethics committee has a very important role in our community. I'm fairly level headed and non judgemental so I'm willing to give it a shot.

My ethical stance ultimately seeks to minimise suffering and maximise peace. I put importance on calmly hearing all sides of an issue, ensuring all parties are fully informed and educated on any breach in policies, ensuring transparency of the committee while maintaining personal privacy, and not letting personal feelings towards individuals alter decisions.

I think there are times when people should be given second chances provided they fully understand their mistakes and consequences. However, clear breaches in consent or disregard for someone's safety are always unacceptable and not welcome in UB.

Those are my ethics, hopefully they align with yours. I have a strong respect for the committee we elect to sort ethical issues when they arise and regardless of whether I become a new member, I'm sure those that we elect will do great :)

Ethics – It’s a big thing in our community. If you don’t know me, I’ve been around for a wee while and if you know nothing else about me, know this – I’m a big believer and supporter in Ethics, Ethical Leadership, Ownership and Transparency. If you fuck up, and let’s be honest here, we all do at some stage – Then you need to own your shit and I will call people out on their shit. Be honest and be courageous. Face your faults and mistakes and we all become better people through it.

I believe in treating people fairly, with open and honest communication, supporting them through a time of crisis and personal unrest. I will question my colleagues conflicts of interest and yes, I’ll happy to look you in the eye and ask you the shitty questions, you don’t want me to ask. Why? Because it helps to keep us all safe, you, me, my girls and UB members. I will work hard for this community, to try and keep us all as safe as possible, so we can enjoy this lifestyle.

Thank you for nominating me to stand for the Ethics Committee, it is an honour.

Although I have only been very active in the local community for around 18 months, we have been involved with some aspects and members of the community for around 10-12 years.

I will be the first to admit that I have had some misdemeanours in the past, and I will most likely have some in the future. Unfortunately sometimes miscommunications and mistakes happen. I am but a human. But I also always try to resolve things amicably and take learnings as they come, both positive and negative.

I have a history in a very rules driven industry and as such have previously written both policies and procedures, and been involved in disputes resolutions.

If elected it would be a privilege to return some energy to the community I love and enjoy.

Hello, I’m Snugpup. I’ve been in the UB community for a few years, trying out a few roles until I realised I was a pup. I help run Sub S.I.G. and the Pets and Littles group.

I am committed to trying to give everyone in the community a voice. I want to help create systems to deal with problems and to increase transparency. I try very hard to stand up for what I think is right. I don’t have all the skills and I’m not perfect, but I think that the community is full of wise and compassionate people. We can work together to make things good.

I have previously served on the Steering Committee, (unfortunately during the year of COVID lockdowns) and have spent the current year on the Ethics Committee.

I fully support UB Parties by volunteering on the setup and pack-down crews and I am a trainee DM.

COVID has brought enormous increases in membership and recent meetings with SIG leaders and wider membership have highlighted suggestions that need to be made to service and communicate to you all – I relish the opportunity to follow through on these in the Ethics Committee, especially ensuring that ALL our diverse membership benefit in the future.

Hello, I'm Spank. I've been part of the Christchurch kink community for the past 8 years and have been involved with the wider community in various facets for many years.

My behind the scenes experience includes former TNG Leadership as well as work with the initial crew that setup the committees we are voting on as well as serving on Ethics for the first year.

I also have first hand experiences dealing with the not-so-nice parts of the realities of the sexual world through historical matters that traversed through both district and high courts... My door is always open if you need.

Being part of the ethics committee is one way I can give back to our community. I take pride in my ability to listen with an open mind and to show patience and empathy with finding appropriate resolutions even when those resolutions may fall outside my personal beliefs.

If voted in, I look forward to being able to continue providing a safe, enjoyable environment for all our members to enjoy.

I've been involved in this community for around 6 wonderful years. During that time I've been lucky enough to have met so many wonderful people and have a lot of amazing experiences.

I really enjoy the social aspect of events and, although I find meeting new people to be a little nerve wracking, it's absolutely worthwhile.

In UB I've found a place where I feel safe and at liberty to relax and be myself. This is something that I really value and I'm well aware of how unique our community is.

I'm incredibly grateful for the experiences I've had as a result of my involvement with UB. I feel that being a part of the Ethics Committee would be an opportunity for me to use my personal experience and professional skills to contribute in a valuable way. I have experience in hospitality, personal well being, and performing arts; and personal understanding of neurodiversity and gender diversity; all of which have contributed to how I interact within UB, and how important my involvement is to me.
